When you buy PV modules, the datasheet usually states the output tolerance is –0 W / +5 W. This looks reassuring: your modules should never perform below their nameplate rating.

But the reality is different. Because of flash test measurement uncertainty at the manufacturer’s facility — often in the range of 3–5% — some of your modules will in fact perform below their nameplate value, even though the datasheet promises “–0 W.”

For example, a 500 W module with a 3% test uncertainty could deliver as little as 485 W in reality, while still being shipped as fully compliant. Across a 100 MW project, that could mean a hidden shortfall of several megawatts.

If your contract doesn’t explicitly address measurement uncertainty, you may end up receiving modules that perform below their nameplate rating. Reviewing the technical clauses carefully is essential — and that’s exactly where we can support you.
