What damage assessment covers 

Post-event damage assessment for solar plants combines visual survey, IR thermography and EL imaging after hail, storm, lightning or fire - detecting both visible destruction and hidden cell damage, quantifying total loss and producing evidence packages for insurance claims.

Hail: the textbook hidden loss 

A hailstorm can crack cells across thousands of modules while breaking glass on a handful. Visually, the plant looks fine and may even perform normally for months - the cracks grow under thermal cycling, and the yield loss arrives in years two and three, long after the claim window closed.

EL imaging photographs the damage the day after the storm. The difference between “47 broken modules” and “47 broken plus 3,900 cell-damaged modules” is routinely the majority of the claim value. Where a pre-event baseline exists - factory EL, on-arrival records or annual campaigns - pre-existing damage is separated from event damage per serial number, which is precisely the dispute every adjuster raises.

Frequently asked questions

  • How fast can a team be on site? Scoping starts immediately on notification; field mobilisation is typically within days depending on site location and access. Evidence quality degrades as cleanup proceeds - call before the site is ‘tidied’.
  • Will the insurer accept EL evidence for cells that still produce power? Cell cracking is measurable physical damage with an established degradation pathway; EL is the industry-standard method of documenting it. Our dossiers pair imaging with power measurements and degradation prognosis - the format loss adjusters can process. 




  • Can you separate storm damage from pre-existing defects? With a baseline (factory, on-arrival or previous annual campaign), yes - per serial number. Without one, statistical damage-pattern analysis still supports origin argumentation. 
  • Do you also verify the repair? Yes - replacement modules are inspected (on-arrival logic) and remediation is verified before sign-off, so the claim closes on confirmed condition.
