Sinovoltaics Releases the 3rd Edition of the PV, Inverter & BESS Manufacturer Ranking Report 2026

Sinovoltaics Releases the 3rd Edition of the PV, Inverter & BESS Manufacturer Ranking Report 2026

The renewable energy industry continues to navigate pricing pressure, market consolidation, and ongoing pressure on manufacturer profitability. As manufacturers adapt to increasingly competitive market conditions, financial resilience has become just as important as product quality and technical performance.

For project developers, EPC contractors, investors, insurers, and procurement teams, evaluating supplier financial health is an essential part of managing project risk. A financially stable manufacturer is generally better positioned to support long-term warranty commitments, maintain production capacity, and navigate changing market conditions.

To help industry stakeholders make more informed supplier decisions, Sinovoltaics is pleased to announce the release of the 3rd Edition of the PV, Inverter & BESS Manufacturer Ranking Report 2026.

The report evaluates the financial health of publicly listed PV module, inverter, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturers using the Altman Z-Score, one of the world's most widely recognized indicators of corporate financial stability.

What is the Altman Z-Score?
The Altman Z-Score combines several financial ratios to assess a company’s financial stability and potential bankruptcy risk. Rather than relying on a single financial metric, it provides a broader view of a company’s financial health by evaluating profitability, leverage, liquidity, solvency, and operating efficiency.

For the renewable energy industry, this information complements technical due diligence by helping stakeholders assess the long-term financial viability of manufacturing partners.

Understanding the Financial Stability Categories
Within the Ranking Report, manufacturers are grouped into three financial categories based on their Altman Z-Score:

While a company's current Altman Z-Score is important, observing its trend over multiple reporting periods provides additional insight into how its financial position is evolving.

What's Included in Edition #3?
The 3rd Edition analyses the financial health of leading manufacturers across three key renewable energy sectors:

PV Module Manufacturers

PV Inverter Manufacturers

Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Manufacturers

The report provides historical Altman Z-Score trends, financial stability classifications, and comparative rankings designed to support supplier due diligence and procurement decisions.

PV Module Manufacturers: Continued Improvement

The PV module sector continues to demonstrate improving financial stability, with 15 manufacturers now classified in the safe zone (Altman Z-Score ≥ 2.6), compared to 14 in the previous edition.

The increase indicates that more manufacturers are maintaining financial profiles above the safe-zone threshold despite ongoing pricing pressure across the industry.

Overall, the latest results suggest continued improvement in the financial stability of the PV manufacturing sector.

Inverter Manufacturers: Stable Despite a Slight Decline

The inverter manufacturing sector currently includes 18 manufacturers in the safe zone (Altman Z-Score ≥ 2.6), compared to 20 in the previous edition.

Although the number of safe-zone manufacturers has declined slightly, a substantial proportion of the sector continues to maintain financial stability.

These trends demonstrate that financial performance varies across manufacturers, while many continue to maintain stable financial positions.

Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Manufacturers: Continued Financial Strength

The energy storage manufacturing sector continues to demonstrate improving financial stability, with 30 manufacturers now classified in the safe zone (Altman Z-Score ≥ 2.6), compared to 26 in the previous edition. This represents the largest increase among the three sectors covered in this edition.

Diversified industrial and energy management companies, including Tesla, Delta Electronics, Hyundai Electric, ABB, Eaton, Siemens Energy, and GE Vernova continue to outperform manufacturers focused on a single product segment. These diversified companies achieved an average Altman Z-Score of 5.54, placing them comfortably within the Safe Zone.

By comparison:
• Inverter and power conversion manufacturers averaged 3.26
• Battery cell and pack manufacturers averaged 2.03
• Solar module manufacturers averaged 1.13
• Standalone storage integrators averaged just 0.08

These results suggest that companies with diversified revenue streams have generally been better positioned to navigate today's challenging market environment than manufacturers dependent on a single business segment.

Top 10 BESS Manufacturers by Altman Z-Score

The top-performing BESS manufacturers in this edition are:
1. Tesla
2. Delta Electronics
3. Hyundai Electric
4. Kung Long Batteries
5. Zhongtian Technology
6. Sinexcel
7. ABB
8. Generac
9. EnerSys
10. Yuasa Battery

The report also highlights notable improvements among companies such as GE Vernova, Hyperstrong, and SolaX Power, all of which moved from near-zero scores into the Safe Zone. Meanwhile, Eos Energy Enterprises improved its financial position significantly, although it remains within the financial distress category.

Financial Stability Remains a Critical Component of Supplier Selection

Technical performance remains fundamental when evaluating manufacturers. However, financial stability has become an increasingly important consideration for organizations seeking to reduce long-term project risk.
