Container vessel shipping rates: downtrend positive for the solar PV industry

Vessel shipping rates have dropped significantly over the past months, providing some relief in a market where raw material inflation and supply chain constraints have put an upward price pressure on PV modules in 2022.

Vessel shipping prices are currently collapsing and the current downward trend is expected to continue over the coming months. Are we 'going back to normal shipping prices'?

Common PV module shipping routes 40ft container prices:

  • Shanghai to Rotterdam,  pricing dipped 58% compared to one year earlier, and currently stands at $ 6,027 per 40ft container.
  • Shanghai to New York, pricing dipped 51% compared to one year earlier, and currently stands at $ 7,701 per 40ft container.
